Lock Guard Made From 316 Stainless Steel

I was no different to anyone else when I needed a Chain and Padlock to protect an asset. I went to a hardware shop, asked where the Chain is kept, the guy says "aisle 5" and he also said "there is a Bolt Cutter next to the Chain to cut it to length." I then asked "do you sell padlocks" the guys says "yes aisle 6".

If the customer can cut the Mild Steel Chain to length easily in a Hardware Shop

a thief can do the same to break into and/or steal your asset...

I cut the Mild Steel Chain to the length I required, went to aisle 6 and chose a Padlock thinking this is adequate protection for my Factory Gate.

How wrong I was...

Since 1982 my factories have been broken into seven times. Four times thieves broke my Padlock and after each break-in I bought a dearer, more robust, Padlock thinking this one cannot be broken and on three occasions thieves cut the Mild Steel Chain.

After the 6th break-in I replaced the Mild Steel Chain with 10mm diameter High Tensile Chain and bought a $199 Padlock. Two months later I arrived at my factory and I was shocked my $199 Padlock was in pieces on the ground and after checking over $30,000 of tools and other assets were stolen from my factory.

NB: Although I did learn from this break-in due to the Bolt Cutter marks on the High Tensile Chain the thieves tried to cut the High Tensile Chain but failed.

After 7 break-ins I had enough.

After the 7th break-in when a thief broke my $199 Padlock I thought there has to be a better security solution to protect a Padlock. After some research I learned any Padlock can be broken by one of three methods, they are:

• Leverage Attack
• Hammer Attack
• Bolt Cutter Attack

I did make one correct decision after my 6th break-in:

10mm diameter High Tensile Chain

WHY !

Mild Steel Chain can be easily and quickly cut with a Bolt Cutter, the common tool used to cut a link in Mild Steel Chain and 10mm diameter High Tensile Chain cannot be cut.
